A Bit (More) About Me

Sabelo Shabangu

Being short and sweet is nice - but not when you have a story to tell...

It's taken me a while to know myself and understand how my passions connect to my purpose. And even when I finally got it... it's been a journey for me to believe it to the point where I didn't hide it.

That does sound so mystical and what not... what I'm trying to say is; I am ready to live my purpose, and to tell the story as I go along...

The Gist

So, my name is Sabelo - I also go by Float Monk. I am a 27-year-old designer originally from Witbank. I took visual art and design in high school - which is where I discovered just how much I love art and design.

I am also a poet and a musician - and I think that I draw so much inspiration from those two disciplines. Work does not start without a playlist - I promise you. The first thing I do when I wake up is; fire up the speakers with something soulful and positive.

I am an aspiring meditation instructor and life coach as well... why? because I am aware of the spiritual faculty within me that animates all of my choices and expressions. I am also aware of that same faculty within you, and every living being ever. And that's why I'd like to arm myself with skills that I can use to help those that I can.

The app I use the most on my computer is Adobe Illustrator, followed by Groove Music Player. Those are my daily bread.

I want to open up a daycare one day... I don't think it'd be a bad idea to grow old around lots of kids.

My Values

I've been fortunate enough to have had the chance to do some conscious self-searching and introspection. I have had some amazing friends who were kind enough to tell me about the kind of person they experience me to be. I've also taken some strengths finder tests and they highlighted some interesting things about me...

Through that, I have distilled my core values to the following;

Believe

This is the root... I believe that as a human being, as a soul posing to ordinary... you've got to believe in something. It doesn't matter what it is... as long as that thing animates you, and drives you to be your best self. In any case, you already do believe in something, whether you are conscious of it or not...

Play

Yes! I am very playful as a person in general... that's why it can be awkward for some people to see my serious face. Because I am very serious about playing. I aim to enjoy life... no matter what. I mean, if we're here for a few years on Earth, what's the point of not having fun? Let's learn, let's love, let's laugh while we at it. ;)

Listen

As I mentioned before; listening is a vital part of my life. Not just to music... but to others when they speak, to nature, to environments, to self and the body. I believe life is always talking to us, and all we need to do is learn to listen. Listening is probably a skill that I will spend all of my life trying to perfect...

Discover

One of my core strengths - according to Gallup Strengths Finder - is Learner.

And with that piece of information, so many things start to make sense to me. The profession I chose and the path I've taken so far is because of this trait. I love to learn, I'll throw myself into any subject that interests me. I guess, I just believe that in some way, everything I learn will one day benefit me - like a piece falling in place into a puzzle.

Make

Lastly - I believe we are all creators in our own right... And that there is this innate force within all of us that compels us to make something. I mean, have you seen just how creative a bored person can be? We are constantly creating... whether we are conscious of that or not.

I think this is something that has driven me to explore so many art forms; writing, photography, visual art, design, music, performance art and sculping. All rose from this need I have to make something... of life, of myself.

And so, that is really the gist of it... these are things that make up my character in this drama that is life. I appreciate that you came to read this part of my story. I'd love to hear your story too...

Peace;

This is Float Monk. 💚
